Minecraft is a single player multi player first-person third-person sandbox construction game developed by Markus Persson. The project was originally conceived as being similar to the game Infiniminer, but Persson decided early in development to take inspiration from Dwarf Fortress as well. It was developed for about a week before its public release on May 17, 2009 on the TIGSource forums, where it gained a considerable level amount of popularity. The game has been in development since May 10, 2009. The game involves players creating and deleting various block types, build fantastic structures and create artwork in a three dimensional environment.
